I like the fact that the next article the autoscroll brings up is about 6/10 drivers getting their license without a road test

All fun and games, until a DMCA strike kills your engine leaving you without power on the freeway at 70 MPH.

No offense, but there is a big difference between a trained engineer and someone figuring out by themselves.
That’s not to say that this kid doesn’t have what it takes to become an engineer, but there are some definite problems in his current design.
Still though, I’m a bit jealous, I’ve only just started on my own car design and I’m spending a lot more and I’m already 32.

i don’t expect him to make the next big thing, but with proper tuition and guidance from others he has potential

I’m sure he already has some of the initial concepts down.
But he might also be more interested in a hands on career. Personally, I’ve found that it’s more satisfying for me to build something with my hands instead of sit at a computer all day.

Ambitious, but that chassis design is frightening to say the least.
Speaking from the perspective of someone involved with recruiting for one of those companies, we do like to see someone wrenching on cars. However, the engineering experience usually far outweighs the ‘backyard mechanic’ ability.

That’s actually the new Ariel atom prototype.
In all seriousness I’d track that

The 2nd pic in the article shows the car “steering”. He’s got a bunch of learning to do.
